Selecting Futon Mattresses

A futon mattress can be the most important part of your futon purchase. The mattress is the part of the futon that you will come into contact with night after night and day after day. You can be assured that if you have ever heard someone complain about the quality of a futon it was because they were sleeping on a cheap futon mattress.

The type of futon mattress that is best for you depends on how you plan on using the futon. Some people use a futon as an occasional piece of furniture that they stick in a basement or spare room for guests that drop by a few times a year. Others, like college students or young people starting out on their own use futons as a regular bed and couch because it saves a lot of living space. Still others use a futon as a regular couch and a weekend sleeper.

Recommended Mattresses

  • For daily use as a sofa and a sleeper, we recommend a higher quality innerspring or foam slab futon mattress like the Sealy Posturepedic 9-inch, Sealy Posture Lux 9-inch, or The Eternity 9-inch.

  • For semi-regular use as a sleeper and a sofa, we recommend a mid-range futon mattress like The Plush 8-inch or the Sealy Posture Form 8-inch.

  • For occasional use as a sleeper and occasional use as a sofa, we recommend economy futon mattresses like The Deluxe 6-inch.

We hope this information is helpful as you look to purchase a new bed and futon or perhaps just upgrade your current mattress. If you're still not sure what mattress is right for you, call us or email our customer service reps about how you will use your futon furniture and they can recommend the right combination that will give you the comfort and durability to match your needs!
