History:
August
Lotz Co., Inc.
has
been offering quality hardwood products since 1897.
Located
in Osseo, WI the company turned futons into real furniture. The idea
was that there must be enough people who would happily pay a little more
for a significantly better product.
Patented Dovetailed Slats in Seperate Removable Sections:
The
August Lotz patented dovetail construction is the stringest and most versatile
construction method used on any futon frame in the industry. Unlike other
point-loaded construction, August Lotz oak frames utilize their patented
dovetail frame construction that evenly distributes body weight over the
entire seating area. Broken slats and other frame components are modular
and easily replaced; however, it is incredibly unlikely that anyone would
ever need to replace a part on an August Lotz frame. The August Lotz return
rate is significantly less than 1%: the best in the industry.
Curved Back Rack:
This makes the frame look more attractive than typical square, boxy constructions.

Consumers
Digest Premium Best Buy:
In the September/October 2004 issue of Consumers Digest. August Lotz,
Inc., was awarded Consumers Digest Best Buy Rating. Consumers Digest described
August Lotz' products as "superbly constructed premium futon frames."
August Lotz received this award in the Best Buy's premium category indicating
that "the product is of superior quality."
For 43 years people have trusted Consumers Digest to identify outstanding
values in a complex marketplace. The designations by Consumers Digest
are awarded to fewer than 3% of the competing models in any given product
category and are only awarded after a thorough review and analysis of
competing products.
The August Lotz name has been associated with fine wood furniture and
wood products since 1897.

Patented
Front Loading:
August Lotz frames close from the front rather than the side. This makes
them last longer and much easier to operate than a typical futon frame.
It also means that August Lotz frames can go in spaces that a typical
futon frame cannot. With a non-front loading frame it is necessary to
have access to the side of the frame to operate it. With a front loaded
frame, you never need to operate the frame from the side.
Oak:
The wood August Lotz uses is Oak. These trees typically grow in
cold, northern climates and grow slower; the result is a stronger tighter
wood that can handle the rigors of constant use.
Limited Lifetime Warranty:
All August Lotz Oak frames carry limited lifetime warranty.

Larger
Radius on Stretcher Rails:
This is a small, but noteworthy feature. August Lotz take more of an edge
off of the stretcher rail where it comes in contact with the sit stops.
The purpose for this is to help reduce the wear caused by the sit stops.
Precision Workmanship:
The August Lotz attention to fine detail and workmanship can be seen in
the patented dovetail slats which distribute weight evenly across the entire
seating area. A curved back rack making the frame appear more attractive
than boxy construction. The recline feature allowing reclining to any position.
Replacable arm tops that are designed to eliminates visible plugs and allow
for easy repair or replacement. Limited Lifetime Warranty on all August
Lotz Oak Frames. August Lotz are experts doing everything correct the first
time. There is no need for unsightly metal brackets or reinforcements because
August Lotz furniture is made right the first time.

Replaceable
Arm Tops:
The arm tops on certain August Lotz frames are removable. This is to make
them easily repaired or replaced. It also results in a better-looking piece
of furniture (it eliminates visible plugs in the arm tops). This feature
also supports the idea that the frame really is made to last a lifetime.
Why else go to the trouble and expense of making arm tops removable?
Eight
Step Finishing Process:
1. Machine sanding
2. Hand Sanding
3. Stain
4. Second Hand Sanding
5. Scuffing
6. Primer / Sealer
7. Scuffing
8. Top Coat
The August Lotz finishing process uses a water based stain. This is environmentally
friendly and may appeal to some customers.
