About Oak, Maple & Bamboo Futon Beds
These futon beds featured on our website are made using American Red Oak or Maple. Full and Queen beds are constructed with a center support beam and King beds are made with two center support beams. Futon beds are assembled by connecting steel screws that are pre-mounted onto every leg into steel mounted brackets that are pre-mounted into the ends of every crosspiece. All bed hardware is concealed for a cleaner look. Tools needed for assembly are a phillips screwdriver, rubber mallet and optional: one friend.
The slat support system on our beds consists of laminated spruce slats (solid poplar slats are available as an upgrade) that are 2" wide and 4" apart. Each slat is 3/4" thick and rests on side rails. Also available are poplar slats which can be purchased as an upgrade. Slats are banded together using polypropolene that ensures proper slat placement. Center Slat is screwed down using wood screws. From the floor to the bottom of the slats on our beds is 10". From the floor to the bottom of the side rails is 9". Side rails have a depth of 3". There is 2" from the top of the slats to the top of the side rails.
This manufacturer designs their side rails for these beds with a 75" shelf that is built into the side of the rail for all of the sizes (Twin, Full, Queen & King models). Typically this means that on Twin and Full size beds this shelf extends to both ends of the side rail and on queen and king beds there will be a total of 2 1/2" of space on each end where the shelf does not extend down to. This is normal to the production of these beds and in no way effects the function of the slat support system with the use of your mattress.
Our products are easy to assemble and use concealed connectors to hide noticeable hardware. All of these futon beds are UPS shippable to you anywhere in the continental United States and are available in "American Red Oak" or "White Hard Maple", two of the strongest hardwoods used in furniture.
Clean lines and strong joints, combined with superior craftsmanship make these futon beds a welcome addition to any home. These are well-built, affordable pieces of furniture that will last a lifetime.
Our futon beds are designed for use with a single mattress and no boxsprings. The beds are available in twin, full, queen, and king sizes. Although the beds are designed for just a mattress, they can be customized for boxsprings by raising the height of the headboard 6" and lowering the slats 3" thus allowing an extra 9" for the boxspring.
Often customers with bad backs or just a lot of things to store under the bed ask us to raise the height of their beds. We will raise up the platform of our beds 3". This option is available on all of our beds with the exception of the Pecos Lite or Taos beds.
Although all of the materials used in our products are natural, the danish oil finish has some drying agents that some people are sensitive to. For those customers we offer all of our products unfinished at no charge. We recommend that they do use a finish product of their choice.

About Oak, Maple & Bamboo Wood futon beds:
Our wood futon beds are designed for use with a single mattress or futon. The wood beds are available in twin, full, queen and most in king sizes.
Although the beds are designed for just a mattress, they can be customized for a mattress and boxspring by raising the height of the headboard 6" and lowering the slats 3" thus allowing an extra 9" for the boxspring, we call this the "Boxspring Upgrade" and this is a $24 option. Some customers ask us to raise the height of their beds for more storage underneath. We will raise up the legs of our beds 3". This option is available on all of our beds with the exception of the Pecos Lite or Taos beds. It's called the "3 in. Higher Bed" and is a $24 option.
Over the years mattress manufacturers continue to put out thicker/deeper mattresses and our beds can be made to accomodate these thicker mattresses so that the headboard will still be visible. We call this option "Gap" and it is available in 3", 7" & 10" depending on what thickness of mattress you have you can select from these different options to make sure your headboard will be visible above your mattress.
Although all of the materials used in our products are natural, the Danish oil finish has some drying agents that some people are sensitive to. For those customers we offer all of our products unfinished at no charge. We recommend that they do use a finish product of their choice. All prices are shown in North American Red Oak with danish oil but we also offer a slightly darker finish called "Dark Oak" for an additional $9. All wood from the United States is responsibly harvested. This is done because wood is like any other crop, which is planted and harvested. North American Hard Rock Maple with danish oil is also an available wood option in a light finish which soaks into the wood almost clear or is available unfinished. Prices for Maple vary by style of bed.
Also available is Bamboo. Our newest wood offering come from Moso Bamboo boards which are grown and harvested in China and imported into the United States. Bamboo is ecologically a friendly choice since it is a grass that grows and matures much quicker than a tree does. Bamboo can be planted and harvested in 5 years when the stalks have hardened and thickened meaning every year 15-20 percent of the forest can be harvested and there is no clear cutting making it a much more productive plant. Bamboo is very hard, harder than rock maple which is one of the hardest of our North American woods. This means less dings and dents and a more durable product. Bamboo has a very exotic look and is available in natural/light (similar in color to our maple) or caramelized (which is similar in color and shade to our Red Oak). Although rare, tiny cracks may be present in the boards and are considered normal. They will not be over 1/32" in width and will not affect structural integrity of the boards. People who are sensitive should also note that there is a grassy smell to the boards at first which dissipates over time.
